About This Spot

Mariscos Pegamama is the kind of place where the rhythm of Puerto Vallarta feels a little more local, a little less hurried. Tucked away from the usual tourist trails in the López Mateos neighborhood, this unpretentious seafood spot invites you into a space where freshness and simplicity take center stage. There’s a warmth here—not just from the sun that filters through the windows, but from the genuine smiles and easy camaraderie of the people who run the place.

Walking in, you sense a lively yet laid-back atmosphere: conversations hum softly across tables where familiar faces and newcomers share plates brimming with the ocean’s bounty. The mood is casual; the servers move with attentive care rather than rush, creating a welcoming environment where you can linger over your meal without feeling hurried.

The menu feels like a discovery in itself, a handwritten map to the rich flavors of the sea. Plates arrived bursting with vibrant ceviches and tostadas, each bite layered with freshness and a touch of subtle heat. Homey touches—like a generous serving of housemade flan or the unexpected depth of smoked marlin—offer moments of quiet surprise amid the familiar textures of shrimp and fish. The array of salsas and subtly spiced sauces invites you to explore the sea’s flavors on your own terms, paired perfectly with refreshing homemade fruit waters that soothe and refresh in equal measure.

Though the menu is primarily in Spanish and the location edges away from the typical tourist bustle, this only adds to the feeling that you’ve stepped into a genuine local treasure. For those willing to venture a little farther and lean into the experience, Mariscos Pegamama offers a grounded, human connection to the culinary heart of Puerto Vallarta, where the food, the people, and the moment feel intertwined and true.

While Mariscos Pegamama is not in the touristy part of PV, it is worth the short trip from the hotel zone. The food is wonderful. The staff is very attentive. The restaurant is spotless. The menu is full of so many culinary treasures. If you don't speak Spanish, ask for the WIFI password as the menu is in Spanish. You will leave completely full & the price won't break the bank. We spent $66.00 for cervezas, margaritas, mussels, coconut shrimp & dessert. Buen provecho!

This place is awesome. Great vibes, delicious food and nice staff. Only thing is that if you don’t speak Spanish you might have a bit of a tough time as the menu is only in Spanish and the staff don’t speak English. The cell service is terrible as well so using google translate isn’t an option. Would definitely recommend going here with someone who speaks fluent Spanish, however my boyfriend and I managed without any Spanish and we still had a great time. You gotta get the ceviche tostadas and spicy margaritas!

The seafood is amazing. We had a variety of seafood tostadas and the mixed seafood burrito. This is the best I’ve had in Puerto Vallarta! Come for lunch as they close at 7 pm.

Great little family owned restaurant. Delicious and unique ceviches and tacos. Our server, Nestor was top notch! We will be back!

Probably one of the best, if not THE best, fish tacos and polpo dishes in PV. Off the beaten tourist track, this family run restaurant delivers the goods and is well worth the walk out of the main strip. Try the marlin taco, washed down with an ice cold beer, rounded off by a fresh scallop (uncooked, cervice-style) tostada with homemade almond and chilli sauce. Absolutely superb and attentive service too. Seriously, if you’re in the market for a great, well priced and delicious lunch then this is the place.

Great place for some seafood! I ordered the Redhead smoked marlin tostada and shrimp taco. A nice touch was the condiment sauces, straight from the fridge. Amazing service, excellent food, and very clean environment. Would recommend and we will be back!
